How to change the Add to cart button text and color in Shopify

The Add to cart button is the most important button in your store. Its wording and color are easy to change and worth getting right.

1. Change the text with theme content

  1. Go to Online Store > Themes, click the ... menu on your theme, and choose Edit default theme content.
  2. Search for Add to cart.
  3. Change the text, for example to Add to bag, and save. It updates everywhere the theme uses that label.

Leave related labels like Sold out and Unavailable clear and consistent with your new wording.

2. Change the button color

  1. In Customize, open Theme settings > Colors and change the button colors in the color scheme your product section uses.
  2. To change only this button and not every button in the store, add a CSS rule targeting the product form's submit button.
Example: a black Add to cart button only
.product-form__submit { background: #111; color: #fff; }

Class names differ between themes; product-form__submit is the one Dawn uses.

3. Or ask Liquify in one sentence

Liquify is an AI theme editor for Shopify. Type the change in plain words and it edits your theme for you, on a draft copy, with a live preview. Nothing changes on your store until you publish.

Questions

Does the Add to cart button text affect conversions?

Clear, familiar wording usually works best. Add to cart and Add to bag are both widely understood; clever wording can make people hesitate.

Can I change the button text for just one product?

Yes, with a product metafield or a separate product template and a small code change to use it.
