How to add a sticky Add to cart bar in Shopify

A sticky Add to cart bar stays pinned to the bottom of the screen once a shopper scrolls past the main Add to cart button. On a phone, where the product description pushes the button out of sight, it keeps buying one tap away.

Most free Shopify themes, including Dawn, don't include one. Here are your options, from quickest to most hands-on.

1. Check whether your theme already has it

  1. Go to Online Store > Themes and click Customize.
  2. Open a product page from the page picker at the top.
  3. Look through the product section's settings and the Theme settings panel for an option called something like Sticky add to cart, Sticky cart, or Quick buy bar.

Many paid themes have this built in. If yours does, turn it on and you're done.

2. Add it with code

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes. On your theme, click the ... menu and choose Duplicate, so you have a backup. Then on the theme you're editing, open the ... menu and choose Edit code.
  2. Find the main product section (often sections/main-product.liquid) and the product form inside it. The bar needs to submit that same form so the selected variant and quantity are respected.
  3. Create a new snippet with the bar's markup: the product title, the price, and a button tied to the product form.
  4. Add CSS that fixes the bar to the bottom of the screen on small screens and hides it on desktop.
  5. Add a little JavaScript that shows the bar only after the main Add to cart button has scrolled out of view, so the two never appear at once.
  6. Test on a real phone: sold-out variants, variant changes, and the cart drawer opening all need to behave.

The fiddly parts are keeping the bar in sync with the selected variant and making sure it doesn't cover your chat widget or cookie banner.

3. Or ask Liquify in one sentence

Liquify is an AI theme editor for Shopify. Type the change in plain words and it edits your theme for you, on a draft copy, with a live preview. Nothing changes on your store until you publish.

Questions

Will a sticky Add to cart bar slow down my store?

Not noticeably when it's built into the theme: it's a small piece of markup, CSS, and a few lines of JavaScript. Apps that inject their own scripts on every page are usually heavier.

Should it show on desktop too?

Usually not. On desktop the main Add to cart button is rarely far away, so most stores show the sticky bar on mobile only.

Do I need an app for this?

No. It can live in your theme, with no monthly app fee and nothing extra loading on other pages.
