How to add a banner to Shopify collection pages

A banner at the top of a collection page sets the mood and tells shoppers they're in the right place. Most themes build it from each collection's own image and description.

1. Use the collection banner section

In Products > Collections, open a collection and add a Collection image and a short description.
Go to Online Store > Themes > Customize and open a collection page.
Click the Collection banner section and turn on Show collection image and Show collection description.
Pick a color scheme and check it on mobile, where the image and text may stack.

Every collection uses the same layout, but each shows its own image and text.

2. A different banner for one collection

Create an alternative collection template in Customize (Templates > Collections > Create template).
Add an Image banner section to that template with its own image and heading.
Assign the template to the collection from the collection's page in your admin.
