How to add a size chart pop-up to Shopify product pages

A Size guide link next to the size selector, opening a chart in a pop-up, keeps shoppers on the page instead of hunting for a sizing page.

Dawn and many other themes can do this with a pop-up block and a regular Shopify page.

1. Use a page and your theme's pop-up block

  1. Create the chart as a normal page: Online Store > Pages > Add page, title it Size guide, and add a table in the content editor.
  2. Go to Online Store > Themes > Customize and open a product page.
  3. In the product information section, click Add block and choose Pop-up (Dawn has one; look for Popup or Modal in other themes).
  4. Set the link text to Size guide, choose the page you just created, and drag the block next to the variant picker.

Using a page means you can update the chart any time without touching the theme.

2. Show it only on products that need it

  1. Tag the products that have sizes, or create a separate product template for them.
  2. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes. On your theme, click the ... menu and choose Duplicate, so you have a backup. Then on the theme you're editing, open the ... menu and choose Edit code.
  3. In the product section, wrap the pop-up so it only renders when the product has the tag or uses that template.

Can I use different size charts for different products?

Yes. Create a page per chart and either use separate product templates or store which chart to show in a product metafield.

Should the size chart be a pop-up or a separate page?

A pop-up keeps shoppers on the product, which is usually better. A separate page is still useful to link from your footer or FAQ.
