How to add a testimonials section in Shopify

A few real customer quotes on the homepage tell new visitors other people bought and were happy.

Only use real quotes from real customers, with their permission. Made-up reviews mislead shoppers and are illegal in many places.

1. Build it from a built-in section

  1. Go to Online Store > Themes > Customize and open the homepage.
  2. Some themes have a Testimonials section; look under Add section. In Dawn, use Multicolumn instead.
  3. Add one column per quote: put the quote in the text, the customer's first name and city in the heading, and an optional photo.
  4. Pick a color scheme that sets it apart from the sections around it.

2. A custom testimonials section

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes. On your theme, click the ... menu and choose Duplicate, so you have a backup. Then on the theme you're editing, open the ... menu and choose Edit code.
  2. Create a new section file with a schema that has a heading setting and a quote block (quote text, name, optional rating and photo).
  3. Add it to the homepage from Customize, and fill in the blocks.
  4. For reviews tied to specific products, a reviews app is usually a better fit than a static section.

3. Or ask Liquify in one sentence

Liquify is an AI theme editor for Shopify. Type the change in plain words and it edits your theme for you, on a draft copy, with a live preview. Nothing changes on your store until you publish.

Questions

Where should testimonials go on a Shopify store?

On the homepage, after you've shown what you sell. On product pages, product-specific reviews work better than general testimonials.

Can I add star ratings to testimonials?

Yes, as long as they reflect the customer's actual rating. Product reviews apps can also show verified ratings automatically.
